Accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy

Tesla Motors

In the Summer of 2012, I interned at Tesla Motors, working on the Drive Inverter Firmware team. The Drive Inverter essentially converts the DC energy stored in the car’s battery to AC energy for the motor to use. My work was to implement firmware code updating the drive inverter alert system, ensuring that error states flagged issues. This code was part of the firmware which powered the Model S as well as the Daimler cars that used our system.

While my career since has taken a different path, the passion fueling my interest was centered on the same things that fascinate me today — the impact the brand was having on the world and the experience it was creating for its community. Tesla showcased that sustainable technology could be just as performant and beautiful as gasoline alternatives — and in some cases, even better. Tesla changed the world's perception of electric cars, disproving the ideas that have long hindered the movement toward cleaner transportation and inspiring the automotive industry to follow suit.

As a middle school student in the Bay Area’s Techbridge program, which encouraged girls to pursue careers in STEM, my interest in sustainable technology piqued after meeting a professional engineer who presented her vegetable oil fueled car. Having to opportunity to work at Tesla and attending the Model S release party was a dream come true.

Disclaimer: This was way before we knew Elon was destroying democracy and basic human rights. I do not support his rhetoric.
